Does pet insurance cover ongoing treatment?
By Frenchie Low
Pet insurance will cover you against the costs of veterinary treatment if your pet falls ill or suffers from an accident. However, not all policies are the same and if you're looking to have cover for ongoing conditions that require long term treatment, then you must opt for lifetime cover. What is lifetime pet insurance? This type of policy available for cats and dogs will cover a medical condition for the life of your pet for as long as you keep renewing your policy with your provider. Each year when you renew, your vet fees benefit limit is topped up to the original amount, meaning that you always have money available to pay for ongoing veterinary care. Ongoing cover, no exclusions This means that once you start claiming on a condition, you can carry on claiming year after year. Some other types of cover (12-month limited or per condition) will only let you claim for a certain time or up to a financial amount. Once the limit is reached, claims are not accepted anymore as the condition your pet suffers from is excluded. You're left with paying for vet bills yourself. With lifetime cover, this never happens. Ongoing conditions like diabetes, skin disease or arthritis are covered for life. For reference, treatment for such conditions may cost up to a few thousands pounds a year depending on your pet, its breed and severity of condition. Lifetime cover is also generally more expensive but in pet insurance, you really get why you pay for.

Contributor's Note
I developed comprehensive knowledge on pet insurance after working in the industry for a few years and needless to say it is quite a confusing product, hence the article.
